Lessor Azorra has delivered Australia’s first Embraer E190-E2 to Virgin Australia, marking the start of a new partnership and the type’s debut with a major Australian airline group.
The aircraft was handed over at Embraer’s São José dos Campos facility in Brazil. Virgin Australia Regional Airlines will use the E190-E2s to replace its ageing Fokker 100 fleet, with eight firm orders and the next deliveries scheduled through 2026.
The 100-seat jet promises up to 30% fuel savings, reduced emissions, and lower operating costs. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and features a quiet, spacious two-by-two cabin.
The aircraft will strengthen Virgin Australia’s operations in Western Australia, serving both resource industry clients and regional communities.
Executives from Azorra, Virgin Australia, and Embraer highlighted the E190-E2’s role in enhancing efficiency, reliability, and passenger comfort, while supporting the airline’s fleet modernisation and sustainability goals.
