Saudi-based aircraft lessor AviLease has placed its first-ever direct order with Boeing, securing 20 737-8 MAX jets with options for 10 more. The move marks a major step in AviLease’s ambition to become a top 10 global lessor.
This deal expands AviLease’s portfolio of 200 aircraft leased to 48 airlines and gives its customers access to Boeing’s latest fuel-efficient narrowbody. CEO Edward O’Byrne emphasized the milestone as a sign of AviLease’s ability to transact across all market channels, including direct OEM deals.
For Boeing, the order strengthens ties with a growing Saudi aviation player and supports the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goal of turning Saudi Arabia into a global aviation hub.
With around 30% of all financed aircraft globally being 737s, this order reinforces the MAX’s central role in modern leasing strategies — combining high demand, low operating costs, and sustainability benefits.
