AerCap has signed a firm order with Airbus for 100 A320neo Family aircraft, in one of the lessor’s largest direct deals with the manufacturer. The order comprises 23 A320neo and 77 A321neo jets, reinforcing AerCap’s strategy of investing in fuel-efficient, next-generation aircraft to meet long-term airline demand.
The Dublin-based leasing giant said the purchase reflects continued strong demand from airline customers for both fleet growth and replacement, as carriers accelerate modernisation efforts and seek lower operating costs.
For Airbus, the agreement represents a major endorsement of its best-selling single-aisle programme. The A320neo Family has accumulated more than 19,000 orders globally and delivers at least 20% fuel savings and CO? reduction compared with previous-generation aircraft.
The deal also highlights the growing role of lessors in shaping airline fleets, with AerCap positioning itself to supply modern, lower-emission aircraft well into the next decade.
Airbus added that the A320neo Family is already capable of operating with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a target of reaching 100% SAF capability by 2030.
Bottom line: AerCap is doubling down on high-demand narrowbody aircraft, signalling continued confidence in long-term air travel growth and the industry’s transition toward more efficient fleets.
