Aircraft lessor AerCap has placed an order for 15 additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest owner of the type. The agreement, announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, increases AerCap’s 787 portfolio to approximately 140 aircraft.
The deal includes substitution rights for the larger 787-10, allowing AerCap to switch part of the order to the higher-capacity variant depending on customer demand. The flexibility is intended to help airline customers adapt their fleet requirements without committing to direct aircraft purchases.
AerCap said the latest order reflects continued demand for modern, fuel-efficient widebody aircraft, with the 787 family offering strong operating economics across a wide range of long-haul routes. Boeing noted that the 787-10 accommodates around 50 more passengers than the 787-9 while reducing fuel consumption and CO? emissions by 25% compared with the aircraft it replaces.
AerCap became the first leasing company to take delivery of a 787 in 2013. Since entering service, the Dreamliner family has carried more than 1.3 billion passengers and enabled the launch of over 540 new non-stop routes worldwide.
