Ethiopian Airlines to introduce Africa’s first Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters via AerCap deal

Share

AerCap Holdings N.V. has signed lease agreements with Ethiopian Airlines for two Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighters, with deliveries scheduled for Q2 2028.

The aircraft—dubbed the “Big Twin”—will be the first of their kind to operate in Africa and offer around 25% greater capacity than smaller twin-engine freighters, improving cost efficiency and supporting network expansion.

The deal strengthens the long-standing partnership between the two companies and aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ strategy to grow its cargo business, meet rising air freight demand, and reinforce its position as a leading global cargo operator.
