Very high delays at the two major London airports due to radar issues. British Airways A350-1000 welcome ceremony postponed

Share

Equipment issues are causing very high levels of flight delay at both London Heathrow & Gatwick airports. The reason for the delays is a radar failure at Swanwick Control Centre. This means fewer aircraft than normal can use the two airports. Luton was also affected.

Luton Airport had five cancellations on Friday morning while Gatwick Airport had 19. The Independent’s travel editor Simon Calder said “dozens” of the cancelled flights were on easyJet and there were “some very long delays on British Airways”.

Due to these delays, the welcoming ceremony for the arrival at Heathrow of British Airways’ first Airbus A350-1000 has been postponed tomorrow.

From Eurocontrol:

EGLL (London Heathrow)
High delays for arrivals due to ATC Equipment (issue with RADAR displays) until 2400 UTC.

EGKK (London Gatwick)
High delays for arrivals due to ATC Equipment (issue with RADAR displays) until 2400 UTC.
