Vigo Airport has officially launched Spain’s first digital control tower, marking a major technological advancement in Spanish aviation. Operated by Saerco using Skyway-Searidge technology, the system provides air traffic controllers with real-time visuals and audio via cameras, microphones, and sensors.
The first digitally controlled flight was Iberia 0466 to Madrid, which departed at 09:37, followed by a private flight from Madrid-Cuatro Vientos.
The digital service is currently active for two hours during low-traffic periods and is supported by the presence of a conventional tower controller for safety. This phased implementation is designed to meet AESA (Spanish Air Safety Agency) and EU regulations.
The tower manages commercial, medical, emergency, and public service flights, reinforcing Aena’s commitment to innovation, safety, and operational efficiency, bringing Spain in line with other European leaders in air traffic modernisation.
