Over the next few days Christian union ACV/CSC-Transcom, representing part of the air traffic controllers at skeyes – ensuring the safety and efficiency of air traffic in Belgium – will toughen its actions despite yesterday’s proposals by skeyes’ management. Kurt Callaerts (ACV/CSC-Transcom) said that the actions, however, will only result in “relatively small disturbances” for passengers and cargo flights.
This morning already, Eurocontrol announced moderate delays in Belgian airspace below 24,500 feet as the airspace is regulated with reduced rate due to an industrial action of air traffic controllers.
Yesterday, skeyes announced to have put structural solutions on the negotiation table. Anyway, a strike notice – running until 23 March – has been issued, according to the Unions the demands of the workers (a list of 25 points, including requests for career interruption, promotions and bonuses) are still not heard.
“Next Thursday, we are going to decide on a possible extension of this strike notice,” warns Kurt Callaerts, “we are preparing for a long fight.” A new meeting between both parties has been scheduled next Friday.
