Belgian air navigation service provider skeyes has become the first ANSP worldwide to achieve GreenATM Level 4 accreditation, the highest level in the sustainability programme run by industry body CANSO. The accreditation recognises skeyes’ consistent and measurable progress in reducing both its own environmental footprint and that of aircraft operating in Belgian airspace.
After achieving Level 3 in 2023 and 2024, skeyes improved its score significantly, gaining 16 additional points under the GreenATM framework, which evaluates performance across 24 sustainability-related topics. Level 4 status reflects three consecutive years of CO? emission reductions, the use of 100% renewable electricity, detailed energy monitoring, infrastructure modernisation, and the rollout of a structured environmental management system.
Beyond its internal operations, skeyes has also contributed to lower fuel burn and emissions for airspace users through improved flight procedures, better operational information, and close cooperation with partners.
CANSO described the achievement as a benchmark for the sector, highlighting skeyes’ role as an example for other ANSPs in Europe and globally. skeyes CEO Johan Decuyper said the accreditation confirms the organisation is “clearly moving in the right direction” and reaffirmed its commitment to investing in innovative solutions to support low-emission aviation.
