Belgian air navigation service provider skeyes and the Flemish regional airports of Kortrijk-Wevelgem, Antwerp and Ostend-Bruges are strengthening their cooperation on sustainability through the signing of three Collaborative Environmental Management (CEM) Agreements.
The agreements, to be signed on 1 July at skeyes headquarters in Steenokkerzeel, commit the partners to closer collaboration on environmental performance and operational efficiency both at and around the airports.
Key areas of cooperation include aircraft noise reduction, improvements in local air quality, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, enhanced fuel efficiency and the adoption of innovative technologies.
The agreements will be signed by skeyes CEO Johan Decuyper, Kortrijk-Wevelgem International Airport CEO Pieter Decloedt, and Nathan De Valck, CEO of Antwerp and Ostend-Bruges airports.
Representatives from the European air traffic management organisation EUROCONTROL will also attend the ceremony, with Tânia Cardoso Simões representing the organisation. Developed by EUROCONTROL, the Collaborative Environmental Management framework is designed to foster closer cooperation between airports and operational stakeholders to improve environmental sustainability.
The initiative marks another step in the deployment of the CEM concept in Belgium, with skeyes playing a leading role in promoting its implementation across the country’s aviation sector.
