Four aviators safely ejected after two U.S. Navy fighter jets collided during an aerial demonstration at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base on Sunday.
The aircraft involved were two Boeing EA-18G Growler electronic attack jets assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 129 based at Whidbey Island, Washington. The collision occurred around 12:10 local time during the second day of the air show.
According to the United States Navy, all four crew members ejected successfully and were reported to be in stable condition. Video shared on social media showed the aircraft colliding in midair before crashing in flames, while four parachutes were deployed near the crash site.
The air show was immediately cancelled, and the base was temporarily locked down as emergency crews responded. Visitors were later allowed to leave after rescue operations were completed.
Col. David Gunter, commander of the 366th Fighter Wing, said officials were “incredibly thankful” that everyone involved survived.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
