Bombardier’s Global 8000 business jet sets new speed record

Share

Bombardier’s Global 8000 business jet has set a new speed record on a flight from Los Angeles to Farnborough, completing the journey in 8 hours and 46 minutes ahead of its debut aerial display at the Farnborough International Airshow. Despite unfavourable tailwinds, the aircraft reached a top speed of Mach 0.93, beating the previous record for the route by 2.2%.

The achievement adds to a growing list of speed records for the Global 8000 programme, which builds on the success of the Global 7500. With a maximum speed of Mach 0.95 and a range of 8,000 nautical miles, Bombardier describes the Global 8000 as the fastest civil aircraft since Concorde. The aircraft also features the lowest cabin altitude in its class and is designed to access up to 30% more airports than its nearest competitor, combining high performance with long-range capability and passenger comfort.
