KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will reduce its Board of Managing Directors from five to four members at the end of this year as part of its “Back on Track” cost-saving and efficiency programme.
Barry ter Voert, Chief Experience Officer and EVP Business Development, will leave KLM after nearly 30 years with the company. His current responsibilities – including mainport strategy, fleet development, network planning, alliances, customer experience, and information services – will be distributed among the remaining board members.
Following the change, the KLM Managing Board will comprise:
- Marjan Rintel, President & CEO
- Bas Brouns, Chief Financial Officer
- Maarten Stienen, Chief Operating Officer
- Miriam Kartman, Chief People Officer

CEO Marjan Rintel thanked ter Voert for his long-standing contribution, citing his “tireless dedication” and leadership in enhancing KLM’s customer experience. Ter Voert described his departure as “no small step,” expressing pride in KLM’s pioneering spirit and focus on customer service.
The restructuring proposal will be submitted to the company’s Works Council for advice.
