The year 2017 turned out to be the safest year ever for commercial aviation, website Aviation Safety Network reported. In a recent tweet, however, President Trump is taking credit for making the skies safe again:
Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news – it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!
It is unclear what exactly President Trump thinks he did to deserve the credit as there hasn’t been a fatal commercial airline crash in the United States since 2009… After the tweet President Trump was ruthlessly mocked on social media:
Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news – it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!

Unlike Obama, Trump won't let any planes crash. Not even a little bit. He's very strict. https://t.co/uQuPzihc80

“Very strict on Commercial Aviation.”
What does this even mean? What, if anything, has he done? There hasn’t been a deadly scheduled airline crash in the US since 2009. The 2017 news is a global achievement. https://t.co/phS2xs86hC

Big shout-out today to all the unsung pilots, cabin crew, engineers, technicians, ATC controllers, accident investigators, airport staff, maintainers, regulators etc who ACTUALLY made 2017 the safest year for jet commercial aviation #avgeek
