Last Friday, the Belgian Government has agreed the acquisition of an Electronic Warfare Operational Support (EWOS) system for the Belgian Air Force NH90 helicopters and the related maintenance contract. Early 2018, two Belgian Air Force NH90 Caiman will deploy to Mali for a UN mission.
EWOS informs the pilot when a missile is “locked” on the helicopter. When the missile follows its target, the EWOS system looks into the database to check what type of missile has been launched and will activate the necessary measures to protect the helicopter.
