An FR flight from VLC didn't want to wait and diverted straight to EBBR.

The other FR on arrival landed shortly after AB.

Anyone knowing the reason?

There is a need of at least 30nm behind a340 in CRL to allow inspection of rwy due to absence of shoulder.
This create a lot of forseen delays for other airport customers.

Reason was given by the captain of KF343: "A small aircraft" had tech issue and blocked the runway.

OO-ABA is scheduled for a departure from Paramaribo at 20h25 local, as PY-9940 (= 01h25 Belgian time).

PZ-TCR, SLM's own A340-300, will take off from PBM for AMS at 22h30 local time. That flight number is PY-994.

Departure OO-ABA AMS-CRL (or will it be AMS-BRU?) is scheduled for 12h15 local.

Thanks SN501.

So OO-ABB had to circle once and consequently landed with a delay of about 15 minutes due to this small aircraft incident.
But next flight to land, FR2955 some 4 minutes after ABB, was barely delayed and landed on schedule.
FR1919 diverted straight to EBBR then for probably other reasons.

Methinks that the runway inspection was done swiftly and that operating an A340 at EBCI is not be too much of an issue.
Hopefully not raining on the parade of those who might want to paint it black.

Hi, I think I will go to CRL on 30 April to spot the first AB taking-off, but only from the "terminal" spot, so not with the gear off... I'll try my best for this day.

Lots of pictures of the rehearsal flights, thanks. But very little comments on boarding/deboarding procedures, interior decoration feeling, seats layout and comfort, service, food... How was it?

Hi EtopsFlyers,

I had just "complained" about the lack of comments on the "regular" Air Belgium thread when I saw your post. You were quick!

Excellent! :) :) :) Thank you and congratulations!
Just 2 (very) little things: your subtitle comment on the trolley disappears a little too fast; on approach to CRL, the captain announced a kind of delay, not a king :) ;) of delay...

And nice to hear the applause after landing; thumbs up for Air Belgium indeed! And good luck to them!

In the current provisional layout, Y+ has the same seats as C. Only the meal was different. This should be changed when the "real" flights take off on 30 April.

Overheard during yesterday's test flights and discussions with knowledgeable people:

1. The two additional A340s should arrive in July. They will be painted and not stickered. Flights to 3 more Chinese cities (Xi'an, Peking and Shanghai) should start shortly thereafter.

2. For those who fear that Air Belgium would bite the dust soon, it seems that 75% of the seats are sold for one year, thanks to agreements with Chinese tour operators.

Nice report! Business Class looks fine.
Old IFE, but as long as it works no problem. Clean cabin, nice livery
But this...

Image

Legroom in Economy on a long-haul a/c really is unacceptable imho. They sell it as 'comfortable legroom' (sic)? :?
Even tighter than SN A330 Economy...
Y-Class Legroom
AB A340 31" pitch - 18" width
SN A330 32" pitch - 17" width
TUI B767 33" pitch - 18" width
TUI B787 33" pitch - 17" width

We've come a long way in Belgium that you have to fly the ol' B767 of TUI to have the most legroom nowadays  ....and some already complained about that a/c.
If AB comes away with it...maybe SN and TUI will follow...hope the trend is not set...

I agree you need to book C or Y+ if you don't like it, but majority of pax travels (or can afford) Y-Class.
Nevertheless wish AB and its employees all the luck. And Chinese people are not that tall in general ;)

Are you sure about that? I'm told that the TUI 767 OO-JNL is one of the very few planes in the world stacking 8 pax abreast in a 767 designed for a 2-3-2 configuration.
