Airbus expects higher costs from managing deliveries of its A320neos that have suffered months of delays and seen as many as 100 jets parked without engines amid glitches at both of its engine providers. Airbus is still mulling production rates for the A320 to as high as 70 or 75 aircraft a month by 2020, although engine manufacturer CFM won’t lift output until it has a grip on the current issues.

Airbus is considering adding extra endurance to the longest-range version of its A321 in a further effort to pre-empt a potential new mid-market jet being studied by Boeing. The proposed new A321XLR would carry extra fuel and expand the range of the A321LR.

Norwegian is interested in a potential order for the A321XLR, which was just announced as a possible new variant.

Airbus to miss its delivery target for P&W-powered A320neos in 2018, after problems with the engines caused an almost three-month halt in shipments. The planemaker reportedly expects to deliver 30 to 40 fewer of the aircraft than previously anticipated.

Airbus says the worst is over on engine delays that hampered A320neo deliveries, with the number of semi-finished and undelivered planes beginning to come down from 100 to 86. Airbus also expects to deliver more of the A320neo models, carrying the new type of engine, in the 2H than the current A320.

American Airlines to delay the delivery of 22 A321neos to at least 2024, due to high fuel prices and a weak revenue environment. Five will deliver in 2019-21, 10 in 2020 and seven in 2021-24.

Airbus could build a longer-range version of the A321neo by 2023, according to prospective buyer Air Transat, beating a prospective competing “B797” to the market. The airline is due to take delivery of its first A321LR in February, followed by a second in March 2019.

Air Malta is eyeing longer-haul services such as flights to New York, Toronto and Mumbai, but rather than take the risk of acquiring a widebody aircraft it is studying the possibilities offered by the A321neo.

Airbus has begun lining up tentative orders for a longer-range version of its A321XLR, as a formal launch is expected in 2019. Airbus is looking for 200-300 draft orders before committing to build the XLR.

To be completely honest, not looking forward towards that plane...

In other news: Airbus is seeking to make the entire wing of the a320 neo ( except for the engines ) electric. Hence the flaps will be driven by new actuators as well. ( electrical ones ) There might be a Belgian company in the mix for those actuators :D
