It's anyway the first time that Liege main runway is CATIII in both directions at the same time (22L and 04R) 😉

The main runway, 22L, was already CAT III for several years.

But you are right EBLG has now two runways equipped for CAT III : RWY 04R and RWY 22L, and hopefully not used at the same time.
;)

It is amazing what they have achieved there to bring this AD from an airfield to a major cargo facility as a whole.

The main runway, 22L, was already CAT III for several years.
Apparently, that's not entirely accurate: 22L was indeed CATIII, but in 2017 a new ILS was installed (or heavy maintenance done on the existing one), causing 22L to be downgraded to CAT I. Only now has it been upgraded again to CATIII.

It gives the impression that everyone wants to fly there but they cant follow...
The airport is saturated* until the creation of new cargo halls and parking spaces, both planned.
The growth of MST (emirates 15 weekly flights !!) is the biggest failure of LGG.

Strange as mentioned above, LGG is saturated.
MST is in the backyard of LGG while MST still have room.
Too complicated for me...

MST has a 2750 meters runway, vs 3690 for LGG. This can also be a limiting factor to operate fully loaded cargo aircraft !

"By taking just a rough look at their present European schedule one can see that they surely must have between 30 – 35 scheduled B747F operations per week in Europe. A rough calculation
would show that at high load factor levels (120t/flight), this would mean between 3,500 – 4,200 tons per week. Going lower, this figure would still be around the 3,000 tons mark each week.
There’s no way that any of today’s European cargo hubs can handle that amount of air cargo on top of what they presently have."

Clearly, the investements decided by LGG show the airport wants to be ready.
The extreme positive feedback from ABC is also a good point "Liege is an excellent example of a cargo-friendly airport in every aspect of its daily operations".
It seems that the mess in AMS made them open the eyes on real good alternatives.
Fingers crossed !
