The crew decided to divert to Clermont-Ferrand reporting smoke in the cockpit. During the descent, the smoke ceased.

The aircraft landed safely on Clermont-Ferrand's runway 26 about 30 minutes later. Emergency services did not find any fire or heat or another possible source of the smoke.

The passengers were bussed to Geneva.

Air France is not lucky with its A380s these days:

Air France flight #AF84 (A380-800 reg. F-HPJG) is on its way to SFO after an earlier diversion to Montreal due to a medical emergency.

Another one diverts to Goose Bay: Air Canada flight #AC859 from London to Toronto (Boeing 787-9 reg. C-FKSV), probably due to the needs of a passenger. The diversion is not expected to last long.

Ryanair flight #FR6622 to Edinburgh (Boeing 737-800 reg. EI-EBK) had to return to Tenerife South tonight after a passenger suffered a heart attack. Couldn't it have landed in Funchal instead?

And again enroute to Douala, after about 1,5h on the ground at Palma de Mallorca. Therefore my guess: medical issue.

The crew noticed an odour and subsequently smoke in the cockpit obviously originating from underneath the first officer's rudder pedals. The crew declared emergency and diverted to Athens where the aircraft landed safely on runway 03L about 30 minutes later.

Greece's AAIASB rated the occurrence a serious incident and opened an investigation. The odour and smoke originated from the electronics compartment underneath first officer's rudder pedals.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Athens until Oct 1st 2017, then positioned to Milan Malpensa and resumed service on Oct 2nd 2017 about 70 hours after landing in Athens.

And now the reason is known: smoke in the cockpit.

A replacement A320-200 registration EI-DEG picked up the passengers in Cardiff and reached Cork with a delay of 4 hours.

Icelandair flight FI532 from Reykjavik to Munich (B757-200 reg. TF-FIR, the famous 80 years of aviation livery) diverted to Glasgow. Probably medical, because it is again on its way to Munich.

The Aviation Herald nicely calls this incident "Loo woes" :)

A Malaysia Airbus A380-800, registration 9M-MND performing flight MH-1 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was en route at FL330 about 5nm south of Brussels (Belgium) when the crew decided to turn back to London due to the lavatories becoming inoperative due to lack of water. The aircraft dumped fuel and landed safely back in London about 75 minutes later.

Dumping fuel when there is a lack of water? Couldn't some fuel be used to flush the lavs? :)
