I don't defend that stupid passenger at all, but maybe airlines and airports can tell their staff that terrorists never publicly announce their plans? The press reports about this incident mention a group of 9 Belgian men (the press reported "native Walloons"), quite noisy and some of them above the alcohol limit to drive a car (though it was a.m. indeed). So when a 51 year old member of such a tourist group tells something childish like "I have something in my pants that eventually could explode", staff shouldn't pull the trigger that fast.

I disagree:
- first of all it's very unusual that you board a plane while being drunk.
- second of all: it's very unusual that you board a plane while being drunk ... at 7:00 am in the morning!
- third: safety and security is a prime aspect in aviation, you simply don't laugh with it.
- fourth: I could agree that you are in a good mood before your holiday but traveling in a group doesn't mean that you are allowed to say or do more than other passengers on the flight.

Repeat: you can't blame stupid people thay they behave stupid. Onze Lieve Heer heeft er van elke soort gemaakt. The vaste majority of people don't drink alcohol before noon, and if so, only when having lunch. But for a small minority of people, it is indeed not abnormal to drink beer at 07h00, when your day started already a few hours earlier.

Same applies for people drinking too much at an airport. For a small minority of people, safety and security is not a prime aspect in aviation. For them, having fun preveals. They regard safety and security as a problem for just one person: the pilot.

Compared to the total amount of pax leaving in the morning... a small minority indeed...

I must admit I sometimes fly as a pax with more than 2 alcoholic drinks consumed (never before 12:00), especially when the flight is delayed and with friends... But I (we) never caused a problem...

I can;t stop thinking that some airline CEO's would love to limit alcoholic consumptions in the airport to 2 so they can sell more on board...

They delayed the plane and all its pax have suffered the inconvenience of that stupidity. The culprits should at least be heavily fined. They would be in many other countries.

According to La Libre Belgique, the true reason why Ryanair cancelled the flights was the lack of captains, not the weather. By invoking weather conditions, Ryanair would escape the payment of EU261 compensations. With the lack of crew they have to pay those penalties.
