airberlin kicks off the summer with a stable capacity utilisation development
While capacity was reduced by 2.4 percent, Germany’s second-largest airline company recorded merely a 0.9 percentage point decrease in capacity utilisation to 82.7 percent and thus maintained a stable development over the past months, despite the most recent geo-political events affecting the tourism sector. With a decrease of 0.2 percentage points to 82.4 percent, the accumulated capacity utilisation remained substantially unchanged.
The available seat kilometers (ASK) increased by 0.1 percent to 5.222 billion kilometers in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year. The number of passengers traveling on airberlin worldwide in June decreased by 2.7 percent to 2,941,280 passengers.
airberlin’s passengers traveled a total of approximately 4.315 billion kilometers (RPK) on airberlin’s global flight route network. This corresponds to a capacity-related decrease by 1.0 percent in yearly comparison.
As Stefan Pichler, CEO of airberlin, stated:
airberlin is doing everything it can to further improve capacity utilisation during the heavily-travelled holiday months of July and August, and offers its passengers numerous attractive vacation destinations on short- and medium-distance as well as on long-distance flights. For example, we fly 500 times a week to the popular sunny isle of Majorca, and since May, we have been flying to new dream destinations, such as San Francisco and Havana (Cuba), from Düsseldorf. Our diverse selection of flight routes and destinations aims to further strengthen our market leadership at our hubs.
