VLM Airlines will expand its network by adding Aberdeen, Cologne-Bonn Airport and Rostock to its destinations list. The Belgian airline will operate from 4th June 2018 onwards three weekly return flights between Antwerp and Scotland. On Mondays, VLM Airlines will offer a direct flight in both directions. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the new route will be operated as a triangle service Antwerp-Aberdeen-Birmingham-Antwerp (passengers travelling from Aberdeen to Antwerp can continue their journey to Antwerp after a short 30 minutes turnaround in Birmingham).

Carol Benzie, Managing Director of Aberdeen International Airport said: “We are delighted to welcome FlyVLM as a new airline partner to Aberdeen Airport. The addition of a Belgian destination to our route network is very exciting. Antwerp is a fantastic destination for both business and leisure travellers and, hopefully, the introductory fares on offer will encourage passengers to try out this new service.”

“With the new route between Antwerp and Aberdeen, we are targeting customers from the oil and natural gas sector for an obvious reason. From Aberdeen, one of the busiest heliports in Europe, numerous helicopter flights are being carried out to offshore drilling platforms in the North Sea. And Antwerp is, after Houston in Texas, the second largest petrochemical cluster in the world”, says Konstantijn Huys, Commercial Director of VLM Airlines.

The country of the kilt and the bagpipe is also a versatile and pleasant holiday destination. Thanks to the beautiful coastline, the world-famous whiskies, beautiful castles and cosy cities, Scotland exerts a great attraction both on the active outdoor tourist and the more culturally oriented traveller.”

Two new German destinations
The Antwerp-based airline will also operate five weekly flights from Antwerp to the German airports of Cologne/Bonn and Rostock. The route to Cologne/Bonn and Rostock will be flown on all days except Wednesdays and Fridays. Konstantijn Huys: “The new connection with Cologne-Bonn Airport and Rostock offers business and leisure travellers from North Rhine-Westphalia the opportunity to reach Antwerp and the coast on the Baltic Sea and other tourist destinations in Mecklenburg Vorpommern region quickly and easily. The time savings on the Cologne/Bonn – Rostock route are significant: just over an hour of flying instead of 6 hours by car or 7 hours by train. Rostock is also a major tourist destination. Ferries and cruise ships depart from the Überseehafen district across the Baltic to Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the Baltic states. The nearby spa town of Warnemünde with its old houses and wide sandy beaches attracts many tourists every year. ”

At VLM Airlines, a drink and snack are included in the ticket price and every passenger is entitled to check in a baggage of up to 23 kg free of charge. At Antwerp Airport, passengers can check in up to 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time of their flight.

VLM Airlines employs more than 100 aviation professionals. The fleet consists of 6 Fokker 50 turboprop aircraft. VLM Airlines also offers scheduled flights from Antwerp to Birmingham, London City Airport, Munich, Zurich and Maribor.
