VLM Airlines cancels plans to fly the Sukhoi  Superjet 100. The Belgian airline wanted to start flying the Russian aircraft on European routes this year.

According to its planning VLM would initially have leased four aircraft, with options for another ten aircraft. Last year, the airline already announced that the delivery of the first Superjet (scheduled in the first quarter of 2015) would be delayed by certification issues of the LR version of the aircraft.

VLM CEO Hamish Davidson reported in British media that the delay is the main reason for the cancellation. In the background, the tensions with Russia have also played an important role. The airline must now look to another aircraft to complement and replace the ageing fleet of 11 Fokker 50s.
