A Lufthansa Airbus A380 (D-AIML) from Frankfurt to Houston was forced to return to Frankfurt on Monday (11 September)  as the pilots noticed an oil leak indication in one of the engines. Forum member Frederik_K was on board the flight and explains to aviation24.be

The A380 was flying over Iceland when the captain made an announcement: “Due to an oil leak indication in one of the engines we are forced to fly back to Frankfurt, as safety is crucial.

Upon arrival back at Frankfurt airport Frederik was invited to go to the service desk: “Upon arrival FRA airport was quite chaotic, as all people had to go to the 16 service desks to have an individual solution. I was at the first 20% of the row and still I had to wait for 2 hours, so people standing at the back will have been there a lot longer.”

He was given three options:

  1. fly out to Munich in the evening, stay in their back up hotel and take the MUN-IAH leg in the morning
  2. stay in FRA, go to the hotel and at 6.45 take the FRA-MUN flight and then do MUN-IAH
  3. stay in FRA, go to the hotel and take next days 10.00 FRA-IAH flight.

Frederik took option 3 and continued his journey to Houston with a 24-hour delay.
