Austrian Airlines carried almost 2.5 million passengers in the first quarter of 2018, comprising a rise of 13.3 percent in a year-on-year comparison. This increase is mainly due to the airline’s expanded flight offering in Europe. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) was increased by 2.8 percent to more than 5.2 billion. On balance, Austrian Airlines sold 3.8 billion revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), corresponding to an increase of 9.1 percent from the previous year. Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was up by 4.2 percentage points to 72.7 percent compared to the prior-year month. The number of flights climbed by 4.9 percent in the period from January to March 2018 to 31,280.

Andreas Otto, Member of the Executive Board and CCO of Austrian Airlines, commented: “In March we carried an average of 28,000 passengers on around 348 flights per day. In doing so we continue to be on a climbing flight.”

The positive trend with respect to passenger volume also applies to the month of March 2018. Austria’s flag carrier transported round one million passengers, equaling a growth of 13.2 percent from March 2017. This increase is mainly due to Easter, that completely took place in March this year. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) was increased by 6.3 percent to more than 2.0 billion. Revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) were up by 15.6 percent to more than 1.5 billion.
