The FAA is launching an investigation on a serious incident with a drone that flew just above a Frontier Airlines Airbus aircraft that was on final approach at Las Vegas airport.

Shortly after its release the video went viral on social media, flying a drone that close to an aircraft can give you five minutes of fame but it’s in fact really dangerous and simply prohibited by aviation law. In July last year a 20-year-old man was arrested in Israel after flying a Mavic Pro drone near Sde Dov Airport in Tel Aviv.

The FAA warned that flying a drone unsafely can lead to hefty fines (up to $250,000), you will also face federal criminal charges and even imprisonment for up to three years.

Website Drone U strongly condemned the reckless and criminal act: “Drone U and its members work tirelessly in making our skies safe for all users of the National Airspace System. This pilot’s actions not only endangered the flying public, but has the potential to discredit an entire sUAS industry.“.

It is the opinion of Drone U and it’s members that the pilot receive swift and just punishment for this example of irresponsible and reckless flight. There is no excuse for this type of criminal behavior.
