easyJet has today put close to one million seats on sale for flights operating to and from Berlin Tegel between 5 January and 24 March 2018.

The new routes announced include four German domestic routes connecting Berlin with Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. easyJet will also add 15 international destinations, including flights up to 5 times a day to key cities like Vienna and Zurich, as well as regular connections to popular leisure destinations like Mallorca and Catania. Passengers can look forward to low fares across the easyJet network by booking early at www.easyJet.com.

easyJet will operate the leading short-haul network at Tegel connecting passengers to and from destinations across Germany and the rest of Europe. The airline already transports more than 5.3 million people to and from Berlin each year through its existing base at Berlin Schoenefeld which opened in 2004, now serving 51 routes.

easyJet flights to and from Berlin Tegel Airport remain subject to regulatory approval of easyJet’s transaction with Air Berlin. easyJet signed an agreement with Air Berlin to acquire part of its operations at Berlin Tegel Airport in October this year.

Thomas Haagensen, Managing Director easyJet Europe:

”We’re pleased to be announcing our schedule from Tegel from January to March 2018 today. Our passengers have a great choice of Germany and Europe’s most popular destinations with fares starting from just €42 per person.

“easyJet is proud to deliver more competition and lower fares to passengers in Germany, particularly on domestic routes where there is currently limited choice. Our schedule from Tegel also delivers excellent value for business passengers who will benefit from first wave departures enabling day trips to get passengers back home by dinnertime.”

“From domestics to popular leisure destinations, key cities in the DACH region and across Europe, to the Nordic countries and beyond to Tel Aviv, we are pleased to be able to offer such a wide range of destinations from Berlin.”

In order to enable the launch of the winter flight programme as soon as possible, easyJet will use some wet lease aircraft alongside easyJet planes to operate flights from Tegel.

The airline plans to announce additional new routes from Tegel for the summer season starting on 25 March 2018 in due course.

Comment: a welcome competition to break the monopoly of Lufthansa after the demise of Air Berlin. easyJet will likely put a pressure on airfares, which Lufthansa has been pushing up recently.
