Today, a KLM Boeing 747-400 Combi registered PH-BFT departed from Amsterdam Schiphol to Saint Maarten to evacuate the people in need, the tourists of all nationalities and other people who do not live on the affected island. It is the first KLM flight to St Maarten since the hurricane broke out. On Tuesday, 19 September, this aircraft will return to Schiphol with the passengers picked up on the island.
The Boeing 747-400 with flight number KL737 will first arrive at Curaçao on Friday night, to pick up staff and equipment. On Saturday the aircraft will fly with a capacity for 268 passengers to St Maarten. From there, some people will be evacuated to Aruba. This flight could be been achieved in part thanks to the volunteers among cabin and cockpit staff.
