Thanks to many requests of the plane spotting community of Aviation24.be, Air Belgium scooped us the exact date and time for the transfer of its first Airbus A340 to its home base at Brussels South Charleroi Airport!

OO-ABB is expected to leave Brussels Airport this Friday (13 April) at 09:00 (UTC +2) (an exact time is still to be confirmed, subject to weather conditions). Barely 10 minutes later, the A340 will approach the airport of Charleroi. The pilots, however, will first perform a few touch-and-goes; a mandatory check is required to verify that the PAPI (precision approach path indicator), the visual aid providing guidance information to help a pilot acquire and maintain a correct approach towards the runway, is correctly functional for operating the Airbus A340 at Charleroi.

If there is too much fog, the positioning flight will be cancelled and the touch-and-goes will be postponed to next week.

While OO-ABB will be parked at Charleroi Brussels South Airport, its sister aircraft OO-ABA will remain stationed at Brussels Airport. From 30 April onwards, the newest Belgian airline will connect Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Hong Kong with direct flights.

Aviation24.be is looking for spotters who can take pictures of the aircraft approaching Brussels South Charleroi Airport and share them in our plane spotting forums, or in our Air Belgium in 2018 forum topic.
